Missouri State Flag

She began the project in 1908 as part of her volunteer activities with the Daughters of the American Revolution. On March 22nd, 1913, Mrs. Oliver’s original design was officially adopted, and Missouri’s state flag remains unchanged to this day.

The stripes on Missouri’s flag are red, white and blue. Red for bravery, white for purity, and blue for justice. The center of the flag displays Missouri’s state seal surrounded by 24 stars commemorating that Missouri became the 24th state to join the union. Two grizzly bears on the state’s seal represent courage and strength, standing on a scroll bearing the state motto: Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto, meaning: “Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law.”
